Waterfront Park Place represents the culmination of a vision to create Louisville 's premier downtown community. The process dates back as far as 1986 with the formation of The Waterfront Development Corporation. This organization, comprised of local community leader sand citizens, was formed to rejuvenate a bleak waterfront of scrap yards, asphalt plants and unmaintained industrial complexes with the goal of providing a safe, attractive and accessible environment where residents could Work, Live and Play.

Phase I of the park was dedicated in July of 1999 and included the completed transformation of over 55 acres into a Great Lawn, festival area, boat harbor, playgrounds, walking trails and all wet play areas. The park was dedicated in 1999 and since has averaged over one million visits and over 120 events per year. This park is not only beloved by Louisville residents; it has also become a benchmark for waterfront development across the country and has enjoyed a variety of awards including an award in 2001 from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Phoenix Award for "Brownfield" Redevelopment. Phase II is currently underway. This 34 acre expansion will include such additions as an amphitheatre, pedestrian bridge across the Ohio river and more tree groves and picnic areas.

Later that year, in the wake of Waterfront Park's dedication and record downtown development, then Mayor Dave Armstrong announced that the time was right to initiate the third phase of the waterfront vision - creating an environment where residents could live as well as work and play. The process began with the submission of concepts for a multi-family residential development along Louisville 's riverfront. Five developers were invited to submit their vision for this ambitious project. Of the five, Waterfront Park Place was the clear standout thanks to the team's foresight to create a residential tower that not only enhanced the surrounding waterfront and skyline but also create the ultimate urban experience for residents with all the pleasures of downtown living at their disposal.

The contract was awarded to The Waterfront Park Place Corporation that same year. This local organization is made up of individuals with the experience and expertise necessary to make this visionary development come to life. The development partners represent a mix of established Louisvillians from the real estate, architecture and construction fields each with an unfaltering commitment to the community and a commitment to creating Louisville 's premier residential property.

Since the groundbreaking in 2003, Waterfront Park Place has quickly become a well recognized and highly regarded cornerstone of the Louisville waterfront. Phase II construction will begin in late Spring of 2006 and will further support the vision of providing a premier downtown environment where residents can work, live and play.
